Note: Indentation Load Deflection is a testing method designed to establish a consistent interpretation of the firmness and feel of conventional open-cell foam. While memory foam is an open-cell material, its heat-sensitive, visco-elastic compounds mean it will react differently in a controlled, laboratory test than in a real-world application. Softening due to body heat is what makes this material unique, and without it, it is difficult to accurately assess the firmness of a memory foam product. There is currently no test designed to accurately reflect the combination of body heat and pressure that memory foam products are subjected to in normal use. Due to this, the ILD rating of memory foam should be considered a very loose guideline, with the user-experience varying on an individual basis.
