- Closed-cell polyethylene cylinders come in a range of diameters and lengths appropriate for applications from insulating and weather stripping to "noodle" swimming toys at the pool or beach. These cylinders are widely used in masonry and concrete work as backer rod to fill gaps between slabs before applying filler, saving time and materials. In larger sizes, they can also be used in crafts or as padding or cushioning in unique pillows. Since polyethylene foam is a smooth, closed-cell foam, these cylinders are resistant to moisture. The larger cylinders are excellent for buoyancy applications as well.
